WHO/TDR/Pasteur Institute

Our basic research is primarily focused on the identification and characterization of novel drug targets, including understanding of the biochemical properties and biological roles of falcipain cysteine proteases. We are also involved in measuring acquisition of resistance to late-stage compounds. We have numerous drug discovery efforts in collaboration with chemistry groups including a focused effort in lead optimization of several series of compounds. Finally, clinical and translational research entails a wide range of studies related to clinical trials conducted in Africa, and mostly directed toward improved understanding of antimalarial drug efficacy and resistance.
