Undergraduate Student, UCSD
Student Lab Research Assistant
I am an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Microbiology at the University of California, San Diego. Human amebiasis, and primary amebic meningoencephalitis are notable diseases caused by two different unicellular pathogens, and are a globally increasing threat. At CDIPD Amoebozoa Core, my research, under the supervision of Dr. Anjan Debnath, aims to develop new drug leads to treat these diseases caused by parasitic Entamoeba histolytica and free-living Naegleria fowleri
My interest in drug discovery research stems from a summer position/internship at Isis Pharmaceuticals (https://www.isispharm.com), where I was able to learn about antisense technology as well as actively contribute towards oncology drug discovery and tolerability research. I was also previously involved in projects at the UCSD Division of Biological Sciences with the goal of determining the mechanism of retrotranslocation in ER-associated degradation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
